Every summer in Chicago is all about patios. Since Chicagoans are really taking advantage of this short-season as the future of dining is still up in the air, see below for a few dining options before winter hits and be sure to comment and tell us what we should add to our End of Summer Restaurant Bucket List:

  1. Drink a Frozen Kirin on Urbanbelly’s patio: A frozen Kirin is a glass of cold Kirin beer capped with something that resembles soft-serve ice cream but is actually frozen Kirin. Urbanbelly is the only place in Chicago that has the special machine to make that icy, white foam, keeping the glass of beer extra cold for about a half-hour. Nothing more refreshing than sitting on the patio with one of those.
  2.  Dine in the street on Clark Street: River North closed a stretch of Clark Street so hit restaurants like The SmithFrontera Grill and Beatrix can offer al-fresco dining in the street every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. From 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Fridays, The Smith offers a happy menu with a tasty selection of cocktails, wine, beer and select items from the raw bar including two-dollar oysters.
  3. Experience a music festival like a VIP: Festivals like Lollapalooza and Spring Awakening have been canceled. However, Celeste and DISCO in River North are hosting The Summer Music Series every weekend through Labor Day. The three-hour experience is $88 per person and includes food, beverage, lounge seating for four to six guests and a DJ set from Chicago’s most traveled DJs.
  4.  Have a picnic: From the lake to the West Side, many Chicago restaurants are offering picnic kits for easy social distance dining. Two Michelin-starred Smyth offers an  picnic package made for two ($74). The seasonal package includes a medley of Parisian inspired snacks and treats from Chef John Shields including Whitefish rillettes, beet tartare, deviled eggs, and more. Across from Lincoln Park, Mundano offers a picnic kit for two ($36) including their fresh daily focaccia with pepita hummus, snack mix of salumi Chicago chorizo, Marcona almonds and marinated olives, escabeche with pickled carrots, onions, jalapenos, beemster aged gouda, and two daily pastries.
  5. The Old Pueblo Cantina happy hour menu: It’s Pancho’s 5 for $5 happy hour which includes margaritas, the chips & dip trio, chicken tinga taquitos, chorizo nachos, and the dos tacos every day from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
  6. Catch a movie at Recess: Every Monday night Recess screens a different classic - like Step Brothers and Space Jam. Tickets are $13 and include one cocktail, glass of wine or beer during the movie. The full menu is available for purchase.
  7. Eat a boozy popsicle at FunkenhausenStay cool with Funkenhausen's new Funken Freezer Pops are available for dine-in or to-go. Flavors are fun and forever rotating. Try the tequila, cucumber, lime and basil or Rootbeer Daquiri.
