Turkitch, a brand of Turkish food products originally founded in 2016, has launched three brick and mortar restaurant locations in Chicago with its flagship Turkitch Turkish Kitchen restaurant in Lakeview at 565 W. Diversey Ave., and two additional spaces located at the Raffaello Hotel, 201 E. Delaware Pl. and the Chicago French Market, 131 N. Clinton St. Embracing Turkish culture’s commitment to dining, Turkitch offers traditional Turkish cuisine with a twist and plans a major expansion in the market.

Turkitch’s menu is specially designed to include dishes from Turkey, including pastries, baklava, sandwiches, main dishes and Turkish coffee and teas available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Main dishes include PogacaSoujouk Omelet, over easy eggs served with beef sausage, Menemen, a tomato, pepper and egg scramble, Waffle and Kofte, and salads, including Bosnak Boregi, a Turkish cheese and potato roll salad with yogurt and red sauce, and Kisir, a spicy bulgur wheat salad with tomatoes, onions and olive oil. Turkish dinner favorites include Meatballs served with piyaz, a mixture of beans, onion, tomato and parsley, Chicken Shish Kebabs, Kumpir and more. All dough used in Turkitch’s dishes is shipped directly from Turkey, which is then baked in-house to create an authentic taste of the delicious flavors. Several desserts are available including Pistachio Carrot Slice, Antep Pistachio and Homemade Walnut BaklavasChocolate Cake and Kadayif.

Developed by Özkan Yilmaz and his wife, Feyzan, Turkitch was born following a life-changing lottery win in 2015. The Yilmaz’ won a green card and moved from Istanbul, Turkey to the United States with a little bit of money, two bags of luggage and their pet cat. Originally settling in Milwaukee, they began making Turkish foods at home for their friends and neighbors to express their hospitality and continue the traditions of their homeland. The positive feedback and monumental interest they received drove them to begin selling their goods in grocery stores and online and – fast-forward just more than three years – now they have three successful locations in Chicago. With the help of their investors, Mehmet Karakus, Cihan Comez and Hatice Yavuz, they have plans for further expansion soon.

“We are so thrilled to have opened not one, but three restaurant locations in Chicago,” said Turkitch Chief Executive Officer and Owner Özkan Yilmaz. “Having made our way to the United States just a few years ago, we are overwhelmed by the reception we have received both with our Turkish food wholesale products and our new restaurants. Chicago is the perfect place for us to put down roots, with a large Turkish population as well as a foodie town where people are looking to experience new authentic dining experiences, and we are excited to continue to grow within the community.”
