On Friday, December 7, Tuko Cantina will debut its Mexican-American cuisine in Wicker Park at 1938 W. Division Street. Tuko celebrates the Mexican cantinas of the American Southwest.
Step through the doors of Tuko Cantina, and guests are transported to the wild West. Rustic wood panels line the walls. Cactuses adorn the tables. The bar is lit by saint candles, traditionally used to pray for dead souls. The space is outfitted to encompass a rustic Southwest.
El Jefe Le’Qoinne Rice shares more about the new concept, “Tuko Cantina celebrates Mexican ingredients and presents them in a playful way. We’re putting a modern spin on the cuisine while staying true to the culture.”
Executive Chef Chris de la Cuerva has created a menu that portrays his interpretation of the crossover of Mexican and American culture. Chef Chris’ Mexican-American fusion will feature an array of nachos, tortas and burgers with hints of Mexican flavor alongside tacos served on house-made tortillas. Taco varieties include carnitas, chicken tinga, shrimp, fried sweet potato, lamb barbacoa, al pastor and more. All meats are made in house.
Brunch will be offered every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm, guests can feast on breakfast tacos, chicken & churros, breakfast burritos and huevos rancheros tostadas.
Pastry Chef Jocelyn Meza joins the team from Untitled. Chef Jocelyn has designed a dessert menu including her signature churros that can be found on Tuko’s in-house churro cart. Guests can expect to finish their meal with her Tres Leches Cake or Churros Sundae, featuring her homemade ice cream.
Rice leads Tuko’s bar program and has amassed a vast collection of tequila, mezcals, and cervezas. For those who enjoy their spirits spiked, there is a full menu of house cocktails, mocktails and smoky frozen drinks.
On New Year’s Eve, Tuko Cantina is hosting a celebration complete with a Mi Campo tequila sponsored bar from 8-9pm, all you can eat tacos, party favors and a live DJ to ring in 2019. Limited early bird tickets are on sale for $20 while supplies last. Ticket can be purchased on their website.
