Terra e Mare will host a pop-up of Irene’s Diner to help raise funds for the reconstruction of the North Center diner which has been closed indefinitely since suffering a fire on May 30. The Irene's pop-up at Terra will begin on June 26 and will continue through the remainder of the summer. Co-partner and Chef Noah Zamler and his team will offer diners breakfast, lunch and dinner from Irene’s comfort food menu, as well as familiar options from Terra.
“It’s a heartbreaking and unfortunate situation for the North Center neighborhood and our team at the diner,” said Chef Zamler, “we hope to get back on our feet soon, and we would love to see all our friends again during our pop-up, or at farmer’s markets throughout the summer. Any support during this time is truly a blessing for our restaurant and our team.”
Breakfast for Irene's pop-up will be served from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature classics from the diner’s menu like Avocado Toast, Biscuits and Gravy, build-your-own Omelets and more. A special Happy Hour will take place from 3-6 p.m. featuring $10 cocktails and $12 cheese pizzas among other bites. Diners visiting during lunch will find sandwiches from Irene’s and Terra, and they can enjoy a $20 three-course lunch break Monday through Friday. Dinner will be served between 4-8 p.m. and will be a mix of sandwiches and handhelds from Irene’s, as well as new favorites from Terra like their Squid Ink Chitarra pasta, Steak Frites or even freshly made and hand-tossed sourdough pizzas.
On top of hosting the Irene’s pop-up at Terra, Chef Zamler and his partners Cristian Mendoza and Petros Papatheofanis will host stands at various farmer’s markets throughout Chicago this summer. Fans of the diner will be able to grab handmade hot sauces, jams and preserves and freshly made sourdough breads at Lowline Market, Roscoe Village and the North Center markets. Funds raised will be used for the diner’s reconstruction efforts. The restaurant has also launched a Gofundme to help raise funds for their reconstruction.
