Sunny Bowls opened its doors in Chicago’s River North neighborhood on August 31st. Located in the food court of The Merchandise Mart, Sunny Bowls delivers a menu with recipes developed by Chicago-based chef and James Beard Award winner Gale Gand.
“Opening a soup-centric restaurant has been a dream of mine for many years,” says Sunny Bowls owner Bob Wolkoff. “When I decided to take the leap of faith, I knew I had to enlist the very best – including the exceptionally talented Gale Gand. We took a global approach when developing the recipes, incorporating spices and ingredients used in cultures across the world to give our menu an international flare and a taste outside of the traditional.”
This fast-casual soup concept gives city-dwellers a meal option made new with convenience, flavor profiles, and health-conscious recipes. Wolkoff says, “Sunny Bowls is a great addition to The Merchandise Mart’s food court, offering tenants, nearby residents and businesses in River North a healthy, satisfying lunch option.”
Homemade with real, whole ingredients, a revolving menu of dairy-free soups such as Thai Chicken, Chipotle Butternut Squash, and Sweet Potato Lemongrass are complemented by breads and spreads – including Apricot & Almond Chicken Salad, Spicy Carrot Hummus and Smoky Goat Cheese . Among the soups and spreads are vegan and gluten-free options. And for those looking for a lighter side option, a variety of fresh salads are offered daily.
Sunny Bowls is located at 222 W Merchandise Mart, Suite 201. The store is adjacent to The Merchandise Mart’s “L” Station, servicing the Brown and Purple Lines.
