The Getaway, Lincoln Square’s newest bar, will welcome Chicagoan Derek Bish back to host a special election-eve edition of Welcome to the Show on Monday, November 4. The bi-weekly Chicago-centric live talk and variety show is free and follows a classic late-night show format a la Conan O’Brien.
The special “night before the election” show will kick off with music from Ziggy Williamson at 7:30 p.m., followed by the show at 8 p.m. Guests can expect a laid-back atmosphere with performances and conversations with Chicago creators.
TV Producer Derek Simonds Haas will offer some insights into covering past elections (specifically the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections) from a media standpoint, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the whirlwind of breaking news. Additional guests will include JG Shadid (Musician), D. Anson Brody (Antiquarian Photographer), Mick Champayne (Illustrator), and Jamie Shriner (Comedian). Complimentary bites and wine samples will also be available.
Welcome to the Show takes place every other Monday in the neighborhood bar’s back room. Seating is first come, first served and guests are encouraged to stay after to mix and mingle. Guests who come early can choose from happy hour specials at The Getaway from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. with $8 house cocktails, $5 select drafts and $4 domestics.
