K-MEX is a semi-secret dinner series happening after hours at Wicker Park’s neighborhood diner Dove’s Luncheonette. On Monday nights only at Dove’s After Dark, Executive Sous Chef Sam O’Keefe infuses his Korean American heritage with classic Mexican-inspired comfort food, making for combinations like Salsa Macha Fried Rice, LA Style Kalbi Pastor, or a Bulgogi Burrito with ribeye, oyster & shiitake mushrooms, kimchi and kewpie mayo.
"I love Korean BBQ and I thought, let’s build off of that. We have the Mexican roots here at Dove's, and with me being Korean, it seemed like we could take two of my favorite cuisines that I grew up eating and have some fun with it for K-MEX. In LA, Mexican and Korean flavors are something you see regularly in the street food and food truck scene, with chefs like Roi Choi leading the way. On the K-MEX menu, we’ve taken some dishes we’re known for such as Burritos and Al Pastor Fries and given them a twist with things like Kalbi and Bulgogi, and it’s really delicious. People seem to be really excited about what we’re doing on Monday nights, and we like to add some new ideas each week to keep it fresh and fun.” — Executive Sous Chef Sam O’Keefe.
Sam’s K-MEX menu will rotate weekly for the next month or so, and is served alongside the restaurant’s lineup of mezcal-forward cocktails.
