Chef Mohan Ismail at RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen in Oakbrook rolled out nearly a dozen fresh new dishes to the menu last week. Take the day to shop at Oakbrook Center then unwind with one of the many new cocktails and dishes at RockSugar.
Cocktails and Non-Alcoholic Beverages
Eleven new cocktails and three sodas have been introduced to the RockSugar beverage menu. The Pineapple Swizzle with Rhum Clement VSOP, Grand Marnier, pineapple, ginger and lime - a strong, fruity refresher for these hot August days.
The two new margaritas, Chiang Mai (Espolon Blanco, mezcal, passion fruit, blood orange and rimmed with chili-kaffir salt) and Ginger (Espolon Blanco, ginger, lemongrass and lime) are pleasantly crisp and cool down the palate with the spicy flavors of the Southeast Asian inspired menu.
Are you the designated driver? No worries, RockSugar has you covered with non-alcoholic beverages too! The house made Ginger Soda (fresh lime and lemongrass) is flavored similarly to the Ginger Margarita so you can get the taste of the marg without the alcohol.
Appetizers
Four new appetizers have made their way to the menu as well.
Fresh Yellowtail Hamachi slices sit atop a cold salad of grapefruit, pickled daikon, pomegranate, cucumbers and jalapeños with a cool citrus vinaigrette squeezed over the tuna-esque fish.
Two savory crepe options are now on Chef Mohan's menu. We prefer the Vegetarian Vietnamese Crepe stuffed with tofu, shiitake mushrooms, turmeric, bean sprouts and green onions. The crepe is served with lettuce wraps, basil and mint for garnish and a light, oily sauce to spoon onto your wrap. The dish is lightweight and shareable.
Meats, Seafood and Noodles
Four new entrees just added to the menu, including the Singapore Nonoya Laksa - large shrimp swim in a sea of spicy chili paste accompanied by golden noodles, a jammy egg, bean sprouts, jicama and cilantro.
Runner-up for best new entree is the Steamed Malaysian Seabass. The steamed fish is hidden beneath a tower of garlic, ginger, shallots, cilantro and red jalapeños all doused with a spicy ginger garlic sauce.
RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen is open Sunday to Thursday 11:30AM - 10:00PM and Friday and Sat 11:30AM - 11:00PM.
