Behind the register, through the cold storage room, and beyond a parted curtain, lies a speakeasy. Opened five years ago, Bodega masquerades as a Mexican minimart on Clark Street and serves as a private dining room — but after hours, the lights turn low. The music goes up. Live entertainers post atop booths and mingle with the crowd.

When they opened the spot in the fall of 2017, DineAmic Hospitality principals, David Rekhson and Lucas Stoioff, as well as Operating Partner Alexios Milioulis decided against signage or advertising, preferring to keep the location a secret. Now, they’re letting everyone in on their secret.

At Bodega, an old-school speakeasy melds with a nightclub. Red leather upholstered banquettes, brick walls, and industrial accents set a scene, and a bottle service menu is on offer at every table.

A rotating roster of the city’s DJs, as well as those from all over the globe, provide the soundtrack, with accompaniment from live musicians. “People are looking for an experience—entertainment beyond just drinking and dining—when they go out,” Stoioff says. “That’s exactly what Bodega offers.”

Bodega is located at 355 N. Clark St. in River North, and open Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 10 p.m.
