The first Lito’s Empanadas opened in Lincoln Park in 2007, delivering classic Latin American style “turnover” empanadas to the people of Chicago. With fillings inspired by the cooking of Mexico City, Chef/Owner Ernesto Guzman and his dedicated team of professionals at Lito’s work tirelessly to produce what is highly regarded as the best empanada in town. Opening his first full-service restaurant, Chilango Mexican Street Food, in 2006 on Taylor Street in the Little Italy neighborhood, Ernesto established himself in the community for creating elevated Mexican dishes. Over the past 11 years the team has since expanded with a second full-service restaurant, Lito’s Empanadas, as well as the first grab-n-go Lito’s Empanadas location at Chicago’s French Market in January 2018, with plans to open more in the future. At Revival, the new Lito’s Empanadas location will be nestled in the former Black Dog Gelato stall next door to Aloha Poke, providing a full menu of their signature empanadas, perfect for guests on-the-go. Black Dog Gelato fans need not fret! Jessica Oloroso will continue to provide guests at Revival with her made-from-scratch gelato and sorbet, such as her famed Goat Cheese Caramel Cashew, Blueberry French Toast and more inventive flavors, via a roving gelato cart in the food hall.
***A Look at Lito’s Empanadas Menu***
The Revival outpost of Lito’s Empanadas will feature Ernesto’s original recipes that play on traditional Mexican flavors with creative fillings such as spicy chorizo, potato and cheese, traditional slow simmered beef and rice, al pastor with sun-dried pepper sauce and more all folded into a handmade flour dough then baked to perfection. Two vegetarian options will be available including a spinach, onion and mozzarella and a mixed pepper/potato/cilantro/tomato empanada. For those who want to heat things up, Lito’s offers a homemade hot sauce made with minced green chilis, onion, garlic, cilantro and lime vinaigrette. Additionally, patrons with a sweet tooth can choose from two dessert empanadas made with Nutella and banana or apple caramel, cinnamon and sugar.
