Now Open West Town

Midwest Coast Brewing Co is now open in Chicago's West Town neighborhood. What started as an over decade-long home brewing hobby evolved into a passion project for the brother-sister duo, Cameron Compton and Lanie Veckman. Located in West Town, the brewery is now open for business, featuring a tasting room offering traditional style beers. Behind the tasting room is an Alpha ten-barrel system brew house and cellar, where the beer is brewed and then fermented.

“I’m thrilled to be opening Midwest Coast Brewing Co in West Town, sharing a neighborhood with some of the best breweries in town,” commented Compton. “I set out to create ‘beer tasting beer’ with a focus on traditional styles, and I look forward to creating a space where people can enjoy a pint, a couple of laughs and a strong sense of community.”

BREWS ON TAP

Midwest Coast Brewing features 12 taps, and will be serving five core brews, with the other taps rotating. The five core brews introduced at opening include the CHI.P.A, the flagship IPA that features half East Coast IPA hops and half West Coast IPA hops and the inspiration behind the brewery name, The Colonies British Pale Ale, featuring the British ESB (Extra Special Bitter) that is a staple in pub culture in England, this beer is a traditional style with a malt backbone, The Holly Shed Saison, a nod to the family’s Midwest farming roots—a   more sessionable beer than other saisons at 5.4%, Local Time Blonde Ale, which has been fermented at slightly cooler than normal ale temperatures to give it clean, lager-like characteristics and Elevator to Nowhere Hazy IPA, loaded up on the back end with Simcoe, El Dorado, and Idaho 7 hops, giving this elevator a smooth, hop flavored ride without flooring you with bitterness. Guests will also have the option to take beers to go in Midwest Coast Brewing Co growlers.

THE TASTING ROOM

The tasting room pays homage to the history and age of the building, maintaining many elements including exposed beams and original brick. The design intention was to keep industrial elements integrated throughout, with elevated and timeless updates. Chairs and booths featuring buttery leather offer inviting and comfortable spaces to enjoy a couple pints. The bar features inlaid tile in a classic pattern, a chic and sophisticated quartz countertop and industrial style bar stools. In the warmer months, the large windows in the tasting room will be opened to offer an open-air, inviting setting for gathering with friends and family.
