In September, Mercat a la Planxa, the Catalan-inspired tapas restaurant in the South Loop, is teaming up with Meals on Wheels Chicago to present a limited-time tasting menu benefiting the organization’s quest to provide programs that improve the quality of life and maximize independence in Chicago seniors and individuals with disabilities.

On September 15 and 16, Mercat a la Planxa will host Cory Morris, corporate and community relations manager of Meals on Wheels Chicago and former Mercat chef, to present a collaborative tasting menu experience. Comprised of some of the restaurant’s dishes from its 15-year tenure in the Blackstone Hotel, the three-course menu will feature offerings such as:

  • Salpicon de Mariscos (Conservas in sofrito, grilled rustic bread)
  • Croquettas de Jamon (Ham croquettes, romesco)
  • Secreto (Iberico pork, romesco, guindilla aioli)
  • Gambas a la Planxa (Blue prawns, lemon)
  • Califor amb Mostaza (Cauliflower, pickled raisins, migas)
  • Tocino de Cielo (Saffron custard with poached apricots)

The special tasting menu will be priced at $75 per person with 20% of proceeds going directly to help fund Meals on Wheels Chicago’s mission of providing meals for the city’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.
