Mercadito, in River North, kicks has announced their new Director of Operations and Executive Chef, Marissa Tuñon. Her first project at the helm is launching the new downstairs lounge, Mezcalito, which is now open.
“Mezcal reached ‘trend’ status in the Chicago hospitality community a few years ago, and it has since become a more mainstream spirit,” comments Tuñon. “Now that more Chicagoans are familiar with mezcal, we’re evolving our lounge to appeal to our growing fan base- both men and women- while also offering creative spins on mezcal cocktails and other spirits.”
The new, handcrafted cocktails at Mezcalito are a nod to Mexican dulce, and street carts; available in shareable or individual sizes:
-Dunes of the Cape: Tequila, pineapple, coconut, spices
-Draft Paloma: Mezcal, tequila, grapefruit soda
“By also adding a new food menu to the lounge, we’re making the space more approachable, and enhancing that lively, social experience our customers have come to expect over the past decade,” adds Tuñon. “With this and other upcoming plans for Mercadito this year, we’re propelling into the next 10 years.”
Mezcalito’s new menu is inspired by Mexican street snacks:
-Papitas: House made potato chips, salsa, lime
-Chicharrones: With avocado dip
-Sopes de Requeson: Crispy masa boat, Mexican ricotta, chipotle
-Sopes de Tuetano: Crispy masa boat, bone marrow, salsa arriera
