I|O Godfrey, the year-round rooftop restaurant and lounge at The Godfrey Hotel Chicago (127 W Huron St), brings the Kentucky Derby to Chicago with its seventh annual Derby Day viewing event on Saturday, September 5. This year, the event will welcome table-only reservations for up to six guests – per city and state guidelines – with required advance reservations.

Guests can cheer on the “greatest two minutes in sports” with TVs showing the horse race, as well as a special menu from Executive Chef Alfonso Martinez inspired by southern food and drink, including Sauced Oysters (selection of mix & match, bloody mary, dragon fruit, or passion fruit, $15); Fish & Chips with tempura-battered Atlantic cod, chipotle aioli, lemon and fries ($16); Kobe Brisket with two house-made BBQ sauces ($12); Shrimp or Chicken Skewers (two per order, $14); and Grilled Corn with cayenne pepper aioli, cotija cheese, and sea salt ($10).

For imbibing, Derby Day-goers can sip on a classic Mint Julep or special cocktails themed after the horses running the race this year such as the Tart Collector (based on Art Collector) made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, muddled fresh blackberries, house-made lemonade, agave, and mint and Tea's The Law (based on Tiz the Law) made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, fresh-brewed tea, house-made sour, mint syrup, and sea salt. This year’s event is in partnership with Woodford Reserve, the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby.

Guests are encouraged to wear their best attire, as there will be table prizes for “Best Hat,” “Best Dressed,” and even “Best Mask,” along with additional giveaways.

Tables will be spaced six feet apart and guests must wear a face covering when not at their table. A complete list of the hotel’s mandatory COVID-19 guidelines are available online.

Table reservations can be purchased here.
