JoJo’s Milk Bar is now open in Chicago's River North neighborhood. The concept is inspired by an old-fashioned milk bar, reimagined as a tongue-in-cheek restaurant focusing on milkshakes and diner favorites.
“We’re introducing JoJo’s as a light-hearted spot meant to spark memories of childhood, while bringing the concept full circle with elevated, but familiar, diner and dessert creations, ”says Castle Hospitality Group partner Robbie Schloss. “The notion of the “Next-Generation Milk Bar” speaks to the casual, but cool vibe that lives on in JoJo’s, while creating an entirely new experience as we draw on inspiration from milk bars around the world.”
The menu, created by culinary veteran and JoJo’s Executive Chef and Partner, Christine McCabe, boasts an array of dessert creations and takes on diner classics. The dessert program, supported by pastry Jennifer Shilts, features milkshakes, ice cream popsicle “milk bars,” gourmet cookies, pastries and bakery items, infused milks and a selection of boozy shakes. Signature dessert options include the chocolate and caramel filled Gold Digger Shake, the Lavender & Blueberry Milk Bar and the Baked Hot Chocolate. JoJo’s Milk Bar delivers diner items with the Smash Burger, a double patty on a house-made brioche bun dressed with the traditional fixings, the Pop’s Pot Pie with a chicken n’ beer gravy and the loaded JoJo’s Fries with waffle fries, melted cheese, bacon and sour cream, which also nods to Schloss’ daughter, JoJo.
The beverage program, led by mixologist, Ryan Schaeffer, plays on the concept’s personality by offering a blend of drinks along with classic craft cocktails. Spirited options include The Blind Date giving guests the option to choose the Brunette or Blonde, the White Cuban featuring rum for a twist on a White Russian and a selection of cake shots for a mini boozy treat.
JoJo’s Milk Bar is located at 23 W. Hubbard St. and is open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to close. The coffee and pastry window is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
