Boka Restaurant Group and Chef Gene Kato have announced that their Japanese sushi and robata restaurant, Itoko, will open on Wednesday, March 1 at 3325 N. Southport Avenue. The Japanese word for “cousin,” Itoko is a description of the ties between this restaurant and Chef Kato’s Momotaro and The Izakaya at Momotaro in Fulton Market District. The menu will feature sushi and temaki rolls.

“I love the walkability and sense of community of the Southport Corridor,” said Chef Gene Kato. “I am excited to bring Momotaro’s energy and focus on ingredients and tradition to a new neighborhood, while making Itoko a special place, all its own.”

In addition to classic nigiri, sashimi, and maki options, Itoko will feature a selection of temaki hand rolls served on crispy seaweed with warm rice. A robata will be used to grill a variety of skewers (negima chicken thigh, shiitake mushrooms, salmon teriyaki, and beef tsukune sliders), as well chicken teriyaki and a whole branzino in a shiso and shichimi crust. Guests can select Chef Kato’s take on Japanese options like ramen in a chicken broth with spicy pork, wagyu beef chahan, chirashi don with Kaluga caviar, foie gras and pork gyoza, and crispy fried chicken wings. Chef Kato has also created a trio of bento box kid’s meals, featuring sushi, katsu, or yakitori don. Itoko will feature a beverage menu with a focus on cocktails & highballs, as well as a sake program.

Itoko will be open daily at 4:30pm.
