Haymarket Beer Company has been awarded Best Overall Brewery and four medals at the 2019 Illinois Beer Festival. The festival was held on Saturday, August 10th, 2019 in Joliet, IL. Over 100 breweries from across Illinois participated in the event, submitting hundreds of beers.
Haymarket Beer Company won two gold medals, a silver, and a bronze medal. All beers were brewed at Haymarket Pub & Brewery in Chicago’s West Loop.
Gold Medal, Euro Ales Category, Motueka Muscle Saison - a farmhouse-style saison. A malt body (Pils, Golden Promise, Carafoam, and Rye), higher alcohol content, and peppery spice flavors from the yeast. Strong lemon-lime notes with hints of tropical fruit from the Motueka hops accentuate this French farmhouse ale.
Gold Medal, Kolsch Category, Kolsch - Kölsch - A light, crisp and unfiltered German-style ale.
Silver Medal, Misc. Belgian Category, Lucy’s Belgian Tripel - Belgian abbey-style tripel. Brewed with pilsner malt and Trappist yeast from one of Belgium's oldest monastic breweries. This beers namesake, Lucy Parsons, was a labor organizer/activist dubbed by the Chicago Police Department as, "more dangerous than a thousand rioters".
Bronze Medal, Experimental Category, The Sun Comes Up Tomorrow Coffee IPA - American IPA. I.P.A. with cold steeped Ethiopian coffee beans from Passion House Coffee Roasters in the FV post fermentation. The result is a blend of citrusy/floral coffee and hops, without the addition of any color, roastiness, or acidity.
“I’m proud of our team and excited for this recognition of their brewing excellence. Their dedication to quality and maintaining high standards for Haymarket’s craft beer is unmatched,” said Peter Crowley, Brewmaster, Haymarket Brewing.
The beer is available on draft at the Haymarket Taproom in Bridgman, MI; at Haymarket Pub & Brewery in Chicago’s West Loop; and at select bars and restaurants throughout Illinois.
