Third Coast Hospitality - Moe's Catina and Old Crow Smokehouse
Third Coast Hospitality is decking the halls of both Moe’s Cantina locations and Old Crow Smokehouse, as the bar-restaurants will play host to holiday-themed pop-up events throughout the season. Kicking off Friday, November 25 and running through December 30, the three experiences — Santa’s Workshop, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Here Comes Santa Claus — will feature festive specialty cocktails, seasonal food items, jolly décor and special appearances from holiday icons.
Santa Claus ditches the North Pole for River North, as Moe’s takes on a Here Comes Santa Claus theme. Featured menu items include birria tacos, mole enchiladas and buñelos — a crispy fried dessert coated with cinnamon sugar — along with a specialty cocktail menu complete with six different craft drinks, all built around the Santa theme including: “Santa’s night cap” (hot chocolate based) “Rudolph's night off” (whiskey and cranberry cocktail) “On holiday” (pineapple, vanilla vodka and oat-based creamy liquor).
Guests can snap pics in a giant Santa Claus chair that fits up to five people, and the River North venue features a custom Christmas video mapping feature on the building’s exterior.
As an added holiday gift, guests at Moe’s River North can receive special parking rates at the garage across the street from the venue. Rates are as follows: $16 for up to four hours, $20 for four to 10 hours and $50 over 10 hours. Discounted parking rates can be found on the Moe’s Cantina website.
The Grinch takes center stage at Moe’s Wrigleyville as the venue gets a dose of Whoville with a How the Grinch Stole Christmas theme. The Grinch welcomes guests in, while inside, bright Christmas balls, bold holiday patterns, Christmas trees and colorful lights pair with menu items like birria tacos as well as buñelos — a crispy fried dessert coated with cinnamon sugar. The pop-up also features a roster of six different fun, festive specialty drinks including Christmas Tree Patron Towers
Special guests and photo ops include several different Grinches — including a live one — and a few familiar faces from Whoville.
Santa Claus is coming to town, as the Wrigleyville barbecue spot morphs into Santa’s Workshop for the season. Giant Christmas balls, white lights and Christmas trees set the holiday scene, while the menu features comfort food options like Old Crow Pot Pie, Short Rib Sandwich, Christmas Ham Sandwich and Sugar Cookies. Specialty cocktail options include the bright and icy Jack Frost, with Patron Blanco, Blue Curacao, lime and agave; the nostalgic Dirty Chocolate Milk, with eggnog, Amaretto and Crème de Cacao in a Mason jar; the Old Crow version of Harry Potter’s Butterbeer, with vanilla vodka, caramel syrup and cream soda; and the Polar Espresso, with whiskey and cold brew coffee in a martini glass.
Photo ops include Santa Claus and his sleigh and reindeer, Ralphie from “A Christmas Story,” Buddy the Elf and the Old Crow giant Christmas horse.
Old Crow Smokehouse, Moe’s Cantina Wrigleyville and Moe’s Cantina River North will be open during the holiday season Wednesday- Friday 5 p.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-10 p.m. As Christmas gets closer, the venues will open their doors Monday and Tuesday as well. All three pop-up events welcome children until 9 p.m., and seating is first-come, first-served — though tickets for an express entry are available via the venue’s websites. The venues reserve the right to limit table times if it’s busy.
All popups are free entrance, but express entry tickets can be purchased online that include a holiday welcome shot.
