Travelle at The Langham

In celebration of the Festival of Lights, Travelle offers Hanukkah-themed specials on its dinner menu beginning Sunday, November 28 through Monday, December 6. From 5-10 p.m. during these eight days, Travelle offers dishes including Fried Donut Specials with truffle cream ($7), cheddar jalapeño cream ($6), or spiced apple sauce ($5); Chicken and Tom Yum Soup ($15) with chicken meatballs, lemongrass, ginger, and basil; and for dessert, Apricot Pecan Rugelach ($13) made with apricot jam, toasted pecans, and cinnamon.

Prairie Grass Cafe

Hanukkah is early this year. The first night is Sunday, November 28 and the team at Prairie Grass Cafe (601 Skokie Blvd, Northbrook) has prepared a menu for home. “Considering that Hanukkah is so close to Thanksgiving this year, we thought we’d make it easy for our friends to have a delicious meal without the hassle of cooking it themselves,” says Prairie Grass Cafe, chef/partner Sarah Stegner. Menu options include Slow Braised BBQ All-Natural Brisket, Potato Latkes, Tzimmes, Mixed Green Salad with Citrus Marinated Beets, and Flourless Chocolate Cake. Dinner package for two as well as a la carte items, and wine pairings are available.

The Graystone Tavern

For its third year, The Graystone Tavern in Wrigleyville will open “8 Crazy Nights” on Friday, November 19. Chicago’s first and only Hanukkah-themed pop-up bar will be open through Sunday, January 2. 

Guests can expect a winter wonderland of decorations created for the Jewish holiday throughout the bar and weatherproofed beer garden, including over 14,000 blue and white lights and Hanukkah ball lanterns adorning the ceiling, Star of David and dreidel ornaments, lighted menorah decor, Mensch on a Bench, a Hanukkah sweater wall, an 8-foot inflatable dreidel and more.

Throughout the pop-up, a special food menu, ranging in price from $5 to $16, will feature traditional and spins on Jewish favorites like Matzo Ball Soup and three flavors of Latkes including classic with sour cream and applesauce, cilantro jalapeno with chipotle sour cream and herb cheddar with chive sour cream. Brisket will be served three ways including Brisket Egg Rolls, a Brisket Sandwich and a Brisket Platter. For dessert, guests can choose Boozy Jelly Donuts made with housemade vodka-infused jelly. 

Festive cocktails with traditional Hanukkah flavors will be available for $12 each like the Festival of Lights Martini (RumChata, Bushmills Red Bush Irish Whiskey, crème de cacao white, caramel swirl, gold sugar rim), Gelt Martini (Schmerling’s Chocolate Liqueur, 28 Mile Vodka from Highwood, IL, Tippy Cow Chocolate Shake, powdered sugar rim and a Gelt coin), Mazel Tov (Nolet’s Silver Gin, Mionetto Prosecco, blueberry rosemary simple syrup and a lemon slice), The Chosen MF (28 Mile Vodka, Nolet’s Silver Gin, Cruzen Rum, Hornitos Plata Tequila, blue curacao and lemon lime soda) and a Mensch Mule (28 Mile Vodka, strawberry puree, lime juice, lemon lime soda and ginger beer). 

Themed shots will include an $8 Sufganiyah Shot (Vanilla-infused Bushmills Red Bush, Toschi Fragoli Wild Strawberry Liqueur, powdered sugar rim), and an $8 Dreidel Bomb (Pinnacle Raspberry, blue curacao, Red Bull Coconut Berry). Guests can also try the giant menorah “shotski” starting at $24. 

New for 2021, guests can sip $12 hot cocktails like a Hanukkah Harry’s Hot Chocolate served in a gold mug (Maker’s Mark, Bourbon, Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream, hot chocolate, whipped cream, gold sugar), and a Blue Toddy (Wild Hibiscus Blue Tea, Bushmills Red Bush Irish Whiskey, honey, lemon). Graystone has also teamed up with Empirical Brewery to create a special light lager that will be on tap exclusively at 8 Crazy Nights called Circumsessionable Lager. Drafts will be available for $7 each all season long.

Board and card games will be available to guests nightly including Connect 4 with Hanukkah gelt, Cards Against Humanity Jew expansion pack, Mitzvah Match, Jewish Guess Who, Dreidel, Apples to Apples Jewish edition and Schmear Build-A-Bagel card game.
