Hakka Bakka Indian Kati Rolls is now open, serving Indian street food in the West Loop at 1002 W Lake Street. This is Hakka Bakka's second restaurant as the original location opened in Lincoln Park near DePaul in 2015 after the owners, husband and wife Kaushik Guha and Swetha Jalan, missed the street food from when they lived and met in Kolkata.
On their expansion to the West Loop, Kaushik Guha said, "We're excited to bring a new, flavorful and affordable lunch option to the constantly evolving West Loop. Just steps from the heart of Chicago's Restaurant Row, we thought that our Indian street food would round out the neighborhood really well."
The 1400 square foot space will have seating for 30 guests and feature a similar design and menu to that of their Lincoln Park outpost. New to the West Loop location will be late-night dining on Friday and Saturday nights until 2 a.m. starting in spring 2019. "The West Loop is a nightlife hotspot, and the Kati Roll is a perfect food after a late night out with friends, the way it was intended to be had," said Kaushik Guha.
Hakka Bakka takes pride in its Signature Kati Roll which features Indian unleavened flatbread made with durum wheat that's layered with an egg then filled with choice of chicken, chickpea, paneer, potato, egg, lamb or shrimp, and topped with onions, cucumbers, cilantro, jalapenos, and mint. Kati Rolls can be prepared with Tikka, a tomato and yogurt-based sauce, or Hariyali, a blended mixture of cilantro and mint leaves along with a mélange of flavorsome spices.
Other options include Salad Bowls with choice of protein, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce and onions or Rice Bowls with fragrant basmati cumin rice, choice of protein, veggies, sweet and spicy pickle and more. All dishes come with a choice of house made chutneys like spicy chili, tangy cilantro, sweet tamarind and savory yogurt. Hakka Bakka will also offer their signature sandwiches and burgers at the new location including the Chicken Tikka Sandwich, Vegan Masala Tikki Burger and Lamb Shammi Burger.
In conjunction with the new opening, Hakka Bakka has unveiled a new vegetarian and non-vegetarian Bento Box for $13 that is available for dine-in only at both locations. The boxes are great for guests who would like to sample a little bit of everything and taste more variety. Boxes include cumin flavored basmati rice, lentil soup, flatbread, a choice of protein (Chicken Tikka, Chicken Hariyali, Lamb Tikka, Lamb Hariyali, Paneer Tikka, Paneer Hariyali, Chickpea Tikka, Chickpea Hariyali), veg samosas, Indian sweet and spicy pickles, and an Indian salad.
