Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago will celebrate its first Pride mont in Chicago with a special partnership with Brave Space Alliance featuring a new exclusive beer called Safe Space.
Safe Space, the limited-edition collaboration beer is a 5.1% ABV Pineapple Passionfruit Kölsch-Style Ale. The Open Gate Brewers started with a traditional German-style Kölsch recipe, brewing it at a colder temperature using a mixed-fermentation process with an ale strain of yeast. Passionfruit and pineapple purees were added to create tropical aromas and a residual sweetness with low bitterness. Safe Space is available on draught and in cans at Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago and OGB’s sister brewery, Guinness Open Gate Brewery Baltimore, for a limited time.
Safe Space was inspired by Guinness OGB Pride Month Partner, Brave Space Alliance, the first Black trans-led TLGBQ+ Center on Chicago's South Side. Grounded in their Four Pillars of Dignity of health, housing, food, and Identity, Brave Space Alliance provides affirming, culturally competent services, and programs for TLGBQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago will be donating $30,000 to Brave Space Alliance in honor of their work supporting Chicago’s diverse Trans community.
“At Guinness, we always keep two things at the top of our minds when looking for potential community partners: community empowerment and equal representation. I'm not sure anyone checks those boxes in a bigger way than Brave Space Alliance. Serving one of the most at-risk groups in our nation - the trans community of color - BSA's leadership creates not just safe spaces, but spaces where the most vulnerable in our society can learn compassion, bravery, and self-worth. We are incredibly humbled to use our platform to shine a bit of light on this remarkable organization and the passionate people who bring it to vibrant, impactful life,” says Guinness National Brand Ambassador and Head of Marketing and Community Partnerships, Ryan Wagner.
In addition to the Safe Space Beer, Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago will host a Curated Pride Themed Beer Brunch on Saturday June 29 from 11 AM – 2 PM. During that time, guests may book a reservation and choose from a special menu including Pull-Apart Monkey Bread with a choice of Coffee Break beer cocktail, a “Beermosa” or Michelada. The second course will offer Shakshuka, Chicken and Waffles or a Breakfast Sandwich. Finally, guests will be offered Pineapple Upside Down Cake with the new, exclusive Safe Space.
