Chef/Owner Jeremy Leven announces his latest project, Gold Goose Tartine, opening at Politan Row food hall (111 N. Aberdeen St.) in the West Loop on Wednesday, September 2. The restaurant launches with a weeklong preview on the Politan Row patio for outdoor dining and carryout. Gold Goose’s hours on the patio, which rotates weekly through Politan Row vendors, are Wednesday-Friday 3-9 p.m., Saturday-Sunday noon-7 p.m.; additional patio days and hours to be announced on social media.
On Monday, Sept. 7, Gold Goose unveiled the full menu, which will be available for pickup at Politan Row or via delivery platforms UberEats, Ritual, and Tock. As Politan Row remains closed to dine-in business, guests placing carryout orders are encouraged to call ahead to limit waiting.
“I’m really excited to have the opportunity provided by being in a food hall,” Leven says. “I can focus on the food and making thoughtful, approachable cuisine without the financial burden of a full brick-and-mortar.”
Menu
The Gold Goose menu centers on Old World café fare like sandwiches and toasts: tartines, French open-faced sandwiches made with seasonal ingredients; smørrebrød (Danish for “bread and butter), which are classic Scandinavian open-faced sandwiches, served on dark malt rye bread; and bocadillos, Barcelona-style sub sandwiches with humble ingredients and bold flavors. This summer, Gold Goose offers a to-go coffee program featuring cold brew and filter coffee. As Politan Row moves into the indoor opening phase, Gold Goose will implement a full espresso program at that time. The restaurant has also partnered with Spirit Teas for a menu of iced botanicals, teas, and lemonades.
“I’m so fortunate to have spent time at Noma during the Plant Kingdom season, which taught me the breadth of botanical flavors, many of which will be on display at Gold Goose,” Leven says.
The patio menu (available Sept. 2-6) includes:
Bocadillos, Barcelona-style sub sandwiches on warm baguette ($12 each), including Jamón & Cheese, La Quercia jamón, house-cured ham, butterkase, fig mostarda, and pickle; Spanish Tortilla, egg & potato tortilla, hot pepper relish, garlic aioli, and arugula; and Harissa Spiced Chicken, North African grilled chicken, crispy prosciutto, Mahón cheese, romesco sauce, and escabeche
Tartines, seasonal offerings served on French country loaf ($9 each), including Peach & Prosciutto, local peaches, prosciutto, basil, whipped ricotta, and honey; and Pan Tomate, grilled garlic-tomato bread, heirloom tomato, olive oil, and garden herbs
Under “Snacks & Share,” Patio Picnic with charcuterie, cheese, marinated olives, Spanish tortilla, sunflower hummus, berry parfait, and baguette ($18); GG Wedge Salad, butter lettuce, bacon lardon, tomato, crumbled egg, and blue cheese ($9); and house Potato Chips ($4)
Available starting Sept. 7 for carryout and delivery, the full menu from Gold Goose adds more sandwiches and toasts, like Bonito Tuna Salad Bocadillo, Ortiz Spanish tuna, caper dressing, greens, balsamic vinegar, and pickled red onion ($12); Avocado Tartine, seasoned avocado, egg, marinated cucumber, pickled red onion, and watercress ($11); and Salmon Gravlax Smørrebrød, camomile cured salmon, dill crème fraîche, pickled beets, and everything bagel spice ($13). Other à la carte dishes include Melon & Prosciutto Panzanella, grilled summer melon, prosciutto, tomato, arugula, whipped chèvre, and tarragon vinaigrette; and Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho, heirloom tomato, cucumber, basil, and ground cherries ($7).
