Funkenhausen, a neighborhood joint in Chicago’s West Town, has revamped their wine menu to highlight small producers and underrepresented winemakers, giving guests the opportunity to expand their palette.

The new wine menu features funky varietals from oranges to organic to more traditional whites, reds, sparklings and rosés. The list explores Old World Varieties from all German speaking regions – offering some under-the-radar wines from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Alsace.

Twists added to the new wine menu include a Funky Wine list featuring slightly chilled reds, orange wines and Chef Mark’s personal favorites:

  • Michael Gindl “Flora” – an Austrian white wine made with Chef’s most favorite and underutilized grape, the scheurebe.

  • Perhaps the funkiest wine on the list is the Weingut Pittnauer “Mash Pit” – a white wine with lots of skin contact and filled with tons of natural wine funk in every sip.

  • Zeit “Orange” – not often you see an orange wine made from 100% Grüner Veltliner. This Austrian Orange is sure to not disappoint!

  • Ad Vinum “Blood Farmers” – a slightly chilled, mildly effervescent red finished with a dash of OD CO2 instead of sulfites, and has become one of Chef’s favorite bottles
