Forbidden Root Brewery has announced the addition of a housemade line of craft beverage experiences, including a vermouth, tonic water, and digestive bitters. Using all-natural herbs, roots, fruits, barks, and spices, Randy Mosher, Forbidden Root’s resident alchemist, has  blended each beverage. The Lost Botanicals Series is available at Forbidden Root’s brewpub locations in Chicago and Columbus.

National Gin & Tonic Day is October 19

·         Stop by Forbidden Root Brewery and Restaurant and for a house Gin & Tonic (barrel aged gin, housemade tonic, twist) for $8 each.

·         One Day Special: Gin & Tonic Kits to go:  Watershed barrel aged gin, housemade tonic syrup, lime (enough for 4)

“We are very excited to expand our beverage offerings in this way,” says Forbidden Root’s owner and Rootmaster, Robert Finkel. “Randy’s divine sense of balance and flavor alchemy have come together to create something truly special.”

·         Housemade Vermouth: Forbidden Root's house-made sweet vermouth adds a botanical touch to their cocktail program. In a base of Madeira wine and Pineau de Charentes, a French beverage made from grape juice preserved with brandy, they add a house maceration of nine botanics.  This is a multi-purpose vermouth: intense enough for a Manhattan, but mellow and balanced enough to drink on its own with a twist of orange. Available for consumption at the pub.

·         Housemade Tonic Water: Forbidden Root uses the bark of the cinchona plant in tonic water. Their slightly cloudy tonic is a maceration of 18 herbs, spices, roots, and barks offers a  botanical twist on this classic. With the fresh zest of three citrus fruits, its flavor is both bold and subtle, crisp, and refreshing, with a layer of spice—it is a match with Forbidden Root’s barrel aged gin. Available for consumption at the pub or as part of a take-home cocktail package.

·         Elixir Bitters:  Forbidden Root's Elixir bitters is a modern American take on traditional European digestive bitters. An alcohol infusion of 14 botanicals such as gentian and cherry bark, plus a touch of elderberry and agave syrup, all aged with American oak. Available for consumption at the pub and to take home for $5/bottle.

“This is a natural extension of Forbidden Root's curiosity and passion around all things botanical, says Forbidden Root Alchemist Randy Mosher.
