Craft Beer Special Events American Ukrainian Village

Tuman’s Tap & Grill celebrates the Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer (FoBAB), North America’s largest barrel-aged beer festival and competition, with a rare/limited release beer tapping the night before FoBAB kicks off at Chicago’s Credit Union 1 Arena.  The lineup lists five beers that have previously only been available at each brewery’s taproom, or in very limited distribution. The tapping features two beers from Bottle Logic Brewing: Intrepid Orchid (bourbon barrel-aged English-style vanilla Barleywine, 2022 vintage), and Motions of the Moon (bourbon barrel-aged Nutella-inspired Imperial Stout, 2022 vintage). Three other beers round out the tap list: Jackie O's Brewery Vanilla Coffee Bourbon Barrel Dark Apparition (Russian-Style Imperial Stout); Other Half Brewing Barrel-Aged Deep Orchid Vega (Imperial Stout); and Resident Culture Brewing Double Dry Hopped Double Lightning (Double New England/Hazy India Pale Ale).

Tapping at 4 p.m.; available while supplies last. There is no cover charge to attend. The featured beers range from $8-$10 each. Tuman’s Tap & Grill is open from 4 p.m.-2 a.m. on Thursday, November 3. Additional information on the beers can be found below.

Bottle Logic Brewing: Intrepid Orchid (bourbon barrel-aged English-style vanilla Barleywine, 2022 vintage), 11.2% ABV. Decadent caramel hue with a glittering, ruby-colored rim. Brown sugar cookie and toffee-toned aromas melt into layers of caramel cream and nougat on the palate. Brûléed-sugar bitterness and undertones of leather, oak, and autumn leaves balance the rich layers of Madagascar vanilla with a soft breath of integrated bourbon on the exhale. $10/5oz

Bottle Logic Brewing: Motions of the Moon (bourbon barrel-aged Nutella-inspired Imperial Stout, 2022 vintage), 14% ABV. Brewers sourced a freshly dumped set of Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon barrels and knew the fudge-y, toasted nut tones of this bourbon would be the host for a liquid expression of the hazelnut spread. After 14 months in barrels, brewers pushed this Imperial Stout through Guatemalan cacao nibs to further enhance its velvety, milk chocolate flavor and finished it with hundreds of pounds of toasted hazelnuts. A bite of vanilla-hued oak and a warming heat on the exhale keep the legacy of these special barrels at the forefront of this Stasis Project series release. $10/5oz

Jackie O's Brewery: Vanilla Coffee Bourbon Barrel Dark Apparition (Russian-Style Imperial Stout, 2022 release), 11.3% ABV. Seven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from selected European and American hops help support the monolithic maltiness. This special batch was aged in bourbon barrels and conditioned on vanilla beans and whole coffee beans. A brew that is intended to be poured into a snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cool resting place. $10/5oz

Other Half Brewing: Barrel-Aged Deep Orchid Vega (Imperial Stout), 16% ABV. The brewery brings back it’s Deep Orchid Vega, and this version is made with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies and barrel aged. Look for a rich, velvety body with a flavor profile reminiscent of Oreo cookies dunked in imperial stout. $10/5oz

Resident Culture Brewing: Double Dry Hopped Double Lightning (Double New England/Hazy India Pale Ale), 8.5% ABV. This beer is a hazy double version of the brewery’s flagship India Pale Ale, Lighting Drops. Brewers took their special calibration of hand-selected Citra, Mosaic and Strata hops and maxed out at 9lb/barrel to take the flagship to a whole other level. Bursting with juicy fruits and dank citrus. $8/13.2oz
