Esmé is unveiling its new Spring menu. Drawing inspiration from the artwork of local artist Meghan Borah, this exhibit, inspired by the hues and blossoms of Spring in Chicago, is set to launch on Thursday May 2nd.
"We have been admiring Meghan's work for quite some time, it's been an absolute joy collaborating to craft both the menu and art exhibit," remarks Executive Chef Jenner Tomaska. “Every aspect of this menu change, from the intricate details of each dish to the handcrafted and painted plates, has been carefully curated to ensure an unforgettable dining experience.”
Meghan Borah, a local Chicago artist, brings her passion for figurative paintings and abstract figurations to life. Meghan, represented by Goldfinch and Gallery Urbane, holds a Master's in Fine Arts from the Art Institute. Her exhibition at Esmé showcases a palette reminiscent of the pastel hues found on her leisurely walks through the local landscapes.
Delving into a floral garden theme, Meghan's large-scale paintings feature ethereal female figures amidst lush floral backdrops. Meghan offers a series of monotype prints, that are created on plexiglass then printed on to paper. Collaborating with Chicago-based ceramist, Ariadna Ginez, is bringing her and Chef Jenner’s vision to life through sculpted centerpieces and plates adorned with leaves, flowers, and candle taper holders. With plates sculpted by Ari and glazed by Meghan, each piece tells a story. As the exhibition unfolds, Meghan plans to swap out pieces for visitors throughout its duration.
Diners can experience Chef Jenner Tomaska's culinary technique as he highlights the light, bright flavors of the Spring season. Culinary creations include the “White Rose”, featuring deep-fried rose petals paired with smoked scallop whipped cream, complemented by a bowl of fennel dashi, rice, and scallop with almond foam and lemon verbena. Guests can also expect the “Candle” made from beef tallow, served alongside tender white asparagus and watch as the candle melts away at their table, revealing the surprise within: cooked white asparagus infused with the flavors of the tallow. The “Partridge Dish" is a tender bird cooked inside clay. Served on a bed of thyme and grass, it's presented atop smoking charcoals. Watch as the clay is broken tableside, revealing the partridge inside.
A selection of beverage pairings will also be available. Guests can also choose from three different beverage pairings: Exploratory, Classic, and Non-Alcoholic. Tickets are now available on Tock for reservations starting Thursday, May 2nd.
