Edible Chicago Kicks off Summer with Margaritas and Mezcal Patio Party, Bayless Garden Tour- Thurs 6/18
June 11, 2015
A private tour of Rick Bayless' Garden, followed by an interactive Mexican feast at Goddess & Grocer, is the first event of the summer for the local food magazine
Summer is finally upon us and Edible Chicago is celebrating with a Margarita and Mezcal dinner fete at Goddess & Grocer, on their patio and in their airy private dining space. The fiesta is part of the new Edible Chicago Dinner Garden Series. In this edition, a limited number of guests will have an exclusive private tour of Chef Rick Bayless' private edible garden, with master gardener Bill Shores.
After the tour, the party gets going with Milagro Margaritas and passed appetizers on the gorgeous patio of Goddess & Grocer Bucktown, which will be transformed into a summer oasis by Christy Webber Landscaping. Tasty delights will include a Cactus & Avocado Gazpacho Shooter w/ Cucumber, Yellow Watermelon & Habanero Pico, and Rock Shrimp and Blood Orange ceviche. Margaritas will include locally sourced fruit, such as the Strawberry Rhu-Marg, a tangy libation with fruit from Seedling Farms.
Following cocktail hour, chefs Mike Barkauskas and Ricardo Paniagua will put on an over-the-top interactive dinner experience, with customizable food stations. A create-your-own guacamole bar will feature crab meat, roasted poblanos, seasonal fruit, and more. A Oaxacan string-cheese demonstration will provide cheese for quesadillas with handmade tortillas and locally sourced vegetables. A Carne Asada station will pay homage to one of Chef Bayless' most famous dishes from Frontera Grill, with black beans, maduros, ripe plaintains.
For dessert, Black Dog Gelato has created a custom and limited edition Horchata flavor, exclusively for the affair.
To round out the fun, there will be a Montelobos Mezcal bar, and local brewery Aquanaut will be pouring their Maiden Voyage IPA! There are a limited number of tickets remaining for the private tour, but there is still space dinner and drinks!
