Craft Beer Sustainable Craft Cocktails Romantic Special Events Bar / Lounge American Gastro Pub Portage Park

CHICAGO, IL (APRIL 1, 2015) Recently opened Community Tavern in Portage Park is bringing an innovative event to Chicago's bar scene. Held on the first Wednesday of each month, the Community Cocktail Series will showcase creative and prominent mixologists from Chicago area bars and restaurants. The three-month long Spring series will kick off on Wednesday, April 1st, from 6-8pm and will continue through May and June. Each guest mixologist will collaborate with Community Tavern Beverage Director Jose Cordon on a specialty cocktail that will be featured on the menu throughout the month. Craft cocktail enthusiasts will be able to enjoy unique seasonal beverages that cannot be found anywhere else.

"We're honored to cross promote with pioneers in the Chicago restaurant industry," says Community Tavern Beverage Director, Jose Cordon. "Our goal is to partner with these key players and garner interest in the blossoming craft cocktail community."

The first series will bring in Daniel J. Rook, Beverage Director at South Water Kitchen in the Loop. Rook became head bartender at South Water Kitchen in 2013, and has since transformed its beverage program. He has received national attention from Zagat, SeriousEats, and also recently won RedEye's "Best Bartender 2015". On Wednesday, April 1st, Rook will be serving up the "Smoke N' Stone", a smoky combination of his and Cordon's unique tastes. The drink features Rittenhouse Rye, Vida Mezcal, Giffard Apricot, Luxardo Amaretto, Black Walnut Bitters and lime.

"I was excited to work with Jose. We met through a mutual friend who is a server at The Portage, and we hit it off talking shop," says Rook. "Our idea was simple; I wanted smoke and Jose wanted a stone fruit – something juicy like apricot. It was fun to play around and come up with something smoky, bold and spring-appropriate at the same time."

The Community Cocktail Series will continue into May and June with two other prominent mixologists, though the series is likely to continue past the introductory three-month stint. Beverage Professional Danielle Pizzutillo will head in to Community Tavern on Wednesday, May 6th, and Jacyara de Oliveira, Bar Manager at Sportsman's Club will close out the series on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Patrons can also expect a few inventive food dishes from Executive Chef Joey Beato to pair with each month's featured cocktail. For more information or to make a reservation, please call Community Tavern at 773-283-6080.
