Chiya Chai is opening its second venue—a chai-focused, quick café in the Chicago Loop at 79 E. Madison St. The new endeavor by the family-owned business opens Monday, November 1 and will bring its chai program—over 150 combinations.
“We are so grateful to bring our chai program and chai-inspired Nepalese and Indian menu favorites to even more Chicagoans,” says Rajee Aryal. “We’re enthusiastic to share our love for the art of chai with our customers and hope this new spin-off of our Logan Square café and restaurant brings even more expansion in the future.”
The new location will focus primarily on chai—up to 150 combinations brewed using both modern and traditional methods—while still offering a curated menu of food that compliments the beverage, such as chaat, dumplings, savory pies and curry bowls.
The Menu
In addition to chai menu items found at the Logan Square café and seasonal drinks, the new café will introduce “desi chai,” a traditional preparation method using pots on a stove rather than an espresso machine. Food options include chaat (Indian street food like pani puri), curry bowls (creamy masala), pies (masala chicken), momo dumplings and more.
The Space
The new space is inspired by chai shops in the Indian subcontinent. As guests enter the new café, they’ll discover a colorful mural that evokes a feeling of peace and warmth and features Chicago’s skyline, an ode to the city. A neon sign glows with the message of “change begins with chai.”
“The change here encompasses many different kinds of changes like letting yourself unwind and replenish, instead of always fueling up and on the go; enjoying drinks that are good for body and soul; going on a journey and trying something new; and adding color and spice to your everyday life,” says Aryal.
