Look out and enjoy the “VU” on 22.A new destination comes to Chicago Monday, September 24 with the opening of VU, 133 East Cermak, the South Loop’s first rooftop bar presented by the James Beard nominated Concentrics Restaurant Group. Located 22 stories above McCormick Place, VU Rooftop Bar touts 13,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor activation areas including a karaoke room, boardroom, club bar, and solarium bar. Designed for al fresco and indoor drinking, dining and lounging, the menu by highly acclaimed Executive Chef Nolan Narut (Bar Cargo/Stefani Prime, The Windsor/Crosby’s Kitchen/Ella Elli, The Waldorf Astoria Hotel) will focus on chef inspired, ingredient-driven shareable, social plates. Advanced Sommelier John Williams, formerly General Manager at Mercat a la Planxa, will develop the locally sourced beverage program.
Upon arrival, guests of VU Rooftop Bar are greeted by one of two floor-to-ceiling light fixtures highlighting the space’s 15-foot ceilings. The interior is anchored by a sweeping 40 stool main bar, constructed as an island with a wood oven in the center. Accompanied by a series of custom 4-foot by 12-foot light fixtures adjacent to the entrance, a video wall traverses the entire 100-foot length of the indoor space. An exposed kitchen with white marble and bleached walnut accents will serve the thoughtfully designed indoor seating area.
To the right of the entrance is the first of two terraces that bookend VU. With soft seating and fire pits throughout, the East terrace features a year-round solarium bar surrounded by glass walls that fully retract, showcasing the views of Lake Michigan, Soldier Field, Northerly Island, and more. The West terrace offers guests an outdoor lounge and boasts a water and fire fountain as a centerpiece, and views of Chicago’s skyline as the backdrop.
