Chicago Businesses Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday this year, but that won't stop fiesta seekers from visiting their neighborhood watering hole for a little celebrating. The revelry isn't limited to Mexican bars and restaurants, so we've rounded up some of our favorite Cinco de Mayo specials around the city. And if you happen to overindulge, we've included a recommendation for kicking that hangover in just one hour. Salud!

Cinco de Mayo Specials at Commonwealth Tavern

• Tuesday, May 5
• $3 to $6 food and drink specials

Guests who choose Commonwealth Tavern (2000 W. Roscoe) for their Cinco de Mayo celebration will enjoy a $6 fundido special, created by Chef Donny Farrell, paired with $6 Milagro margaritas, and $3 Corona and Corona Light.

Cinco de Mayo Specials at Kanela Breakfast Club

• $5 to $25 food and drink specials

For Cinco de Mayo, Kanela in Lakeview, Old Town and Wicker Park will offer a twist on the Breakfast Quesadilla, available for $10. The special features scrambled eggs, chorizo, black beans, corn, and chihuahua cheese served with salsa verde, sour cream and pico de gallo. Kanela will also offer house made margaritas for $5 each or $25 for a pitcher. Olé!

Pioneer Tavern Group FREE Uno de Mayo Bar Crawl

• Friday, May 1 starting at 7 p.m.
• Complimentary trolley

Chicagoans are invited to join Pioneer Tavern Group as they host an Uno de Mayo Dos Equis Trolley Crawl between Frontier, Lottie's Pub and The Pony on Friday, May 1. The trolley is FREE and pick-up will begin at 7 p.m. Three trolleys will rotate between the bars every 30 minutes until 1 a.m. The trolleys will be stocked with Dos Equis beer, and Dos Equis promotional girls will be on board traveling between the venues.

Each location will have a featured specials like $5 Milagro tequila, brand samplings, a margarita station and more (complete list available below). Patrons can sign up at Lottie's and The Pony or by emailing their name to freetrolley@pioneertaverngroup.com.

Guests who visit Stretch Bar & Grill (3485 N. Clark St.) will enjoy the ultimate Cinco de Mayo party with a taco eating contest beginning at 8 p.m. Entry for the contest is $20 and the winner will receive a free taco every Thursday for life. Other highlights include photos with a miniature donkey from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., $2 tacos, $3 Corona, Corona Light and Modelo, half-off tequila, and complimentary sombreros and mustaches.
