On Sunday, March 12, writer and cookbook author Katie Parla appears at Cellar Door Provisions for a special, one-night-only evening of aperitivo while on a national book tour promoting her latest release, Food of the Italian Islands. The ticketed event includes an Italian-inspired aperitivo spread and wine by Cellar Door as well as a signed copy of Parla’s book. Parla will be on-hand to personalize copies and chat with guests, who will also have the option to experience and purchase a range of island wines by the glass or bottle including offerings from Meigamma (Sardinia), Panevino (Sardinia) and Gabrio Bini (Pantelleria).
“We’re so excited to welcome Katie to Chicago and to our restaurant,” Cellar Door Provisions chef-owner Ethan Pikas says. ”Katie understands the power and simplicity of Italian cuisine. It’s heartfelt and soulful cooking that speaks to people. Beyond that, she writes about it very approachably.”
With Parla as the guide, Food of the Italian Islands is a cookbook and travel guide to discover and embrace the adventure of Sicily, Sardinia, the Venetian Lagoon and other lesser-known islands. The book contains over 85 recipes that showcase the islands while features delve into the cultural and culinary fabric of the destinations, providing historical insight while documenting pleasures to uncover. Food of the Italian Islands is organized with a thematic approach, with travel tips and pairing suggestions throughout.
The event runs from 3-6pm. Tickets are $120 (includes aperitivo, wine and a signed copy of the book) and can be purchased in advance on Cellar Door Provision's website.
