Chef Norman Fenton of Cariño has been in the throws of the immigration process to bring his family to Chicago, flying back and forth between the two countries, maintaining his Tulum-based restaurant Wild, and opening Cariño. Wanting to help others navigate the immigration process, Norman is officially launching a monthly charity dinner series, Tacos with Friends. For one night only, a guest chef will post up at Cariño and put their spin on the late-night taco omakase service, with proceeds benefiting Latinos Progresando, Chicago's largest nonprofit resource for immigration legal counsel.

Upcoming guest chefs include chef/DJ/graffiti artist, Won Kim of Korean-Polish fusion spot Kimski, and Jenner Tomaska of Esmé.

The exclusive, seven-seat omakase dinner will feature 12 courses — six from the guest chef, showcasing their scuisine and style, and six from Norman, all wrapped up in tortillas, tostadas, and more from Cariño’s in-house masa program. Priced at $250 per person, Tacos with Friends includes four drinks, offering guests a selection of cocktails from mixologist Denisse Soto and/or wine curated by sommelier Richie Ribando.

In addition to choosing Latinos Progresando as the benefactor for Tacos with Friends, Norman has pledged a portion of Cariño’s annual profits to the organization.
