Cafe Marie-Jeanne (1001 N California Ave) is an official Chicago stop for the Wine Food: New Adventures in Drinking and Cooking book tour. Authors Andrea Slonecker and Dana Frank will be stopping by on Saturday, October 20 from 10am-2pm to sell & sign books while mixing & mingling with Cafe Marie-Jeanne guests.
Wine Food: New Adventures in Drinking and Cooking features about 75 recipes with photography, as well as some playfully-illustrated pairing cheat sheets, and larger family-style feasts. It was shot in Portland last summer when the farmers market was bursting with late summer produce. All of the recipes are partnered with natural and natural-leaning wines, and each recipe suggests 4-8 growers that readers can seek out.
Chef Michael Simmons will be putting his spin on the below recipes from the “Brunch with Benefits” chapter. These dishes will just be offered on 10/20 with pairing suggestions from Cafe Marie-Jeanne’s wine director Jamie McLennan:
Griddled Zucchini Bread with Squash and Pears
Biscuits and Wild Mushroom Gravy
Pretzel Bagels and House-Smoked Fish
Pimento Cheese Soufflé
Brisket Hash with Herby Poached Eggs
Chicken Pot Pie
Deviled Ham Hand Pies
Stuffed Peppers with Sweet Corn, Herby Rice, and Possibly Too Much Cheese
