Freehand Chicago has announced that the Broken Shaker bar will be expanding at the River North hotel. Slated to open on Monday, July 25th, just in time for Lollapalooza, the bar created by Bar Lab will expand its footprint on the hotel’s ground floor and offer new drinks, breakfast and lunch dishes.

“We are ecstatic to be expanding the award-winning Broken Shaker at Freehand Chicago,” says General Manager Jermaine Anderson. “We’re looking forward to introducing a whole new extension of Broken Shaker that will celebrate the beautiful Chicago Summer and offer locals and tourists alike a never-before-seen Broken Shaker experience.”

The bar will expand into the Freehand Chicago’s lobby with a light, airy, and summery build-out. The new space, designed in collaboration between Mad Artistic and Deft Union, features light colors and textiles, large open windows facing East Ohio Street, and outdoor seating making the bar an option for the summer months.

“The Bar Lab team is extremely excited to expand our footprint at the buzzing Freehand Chicago,” says Gabe Orta, Co-Founder of Bar Lab. “By offering two complementary versions of the Broken Shaker, one mysterious and sultry and the other bright and fresh, we can guarantee that guests at Freehand Chicago will be able to enjoy our craft-cocktails and delicious bites throughout every season.”

The expansion will usher in new all-day, fresh food options and lighter beverage choices like fresh and seasonal cocktails, natural wines, and a selection of low ABV drinks. Culinary choices will range from breakfast options created by Executive Chef Corey Rice like breakfast empanadas, Chef’s spin on Avocado Toast with Bourbon Peaches and Prosciutto, and an Everything Biscuit, a take on an Everything Bagel but with a homemade biscuit, recipe courtesy of Chef Rice’s great-grandmother. Lunch options will also be on offer with dishes like a Pulled Pork Sandwich or Kale Grilled Cheese. These additions will be accompanied by classic, house-made pastries and freshly brewed coffees.

While coffee service will be served every day from 7am to 4pm.
