Beatnik On The River, Bonhomme Hospitality Group's sister restaurant to West Town’s Beatnik, officially reopened its riverfront terrace Friday, June 14. Overlooking the South Branch of the Chicago River between Lake and Randolph streets, the 50-seat Morocco-meets-Bali Terrace is decked out with pillow-topped carved-wood daybeds, handmade Indonesian umbrellas, Moorish lanterns and greenery.
This season’s upgrades include a 14-foot-high covered pergola protecting the entire 1500-square-foot space for cocktailing and dining, rain or shine. A 1920’s French art deco oak bar as well as two Italian 19th-century library cabinets repurposed as communal credenzas provide additional gathering areas.
Underfoot, inspired by the private courtyards of Sevilla, is a floor mural by Chicago artist Erik DeBat. Twinkling tea lights wrapped around ivy-covered tree trunks add to the look.
In conjunction with the terrace launch, Beatnik On The River debuts RIVIERA SATURDAYS, a brunch party on Saturdays from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Taking inspiration from the era that spanned from the late 1950s to the 1970s along the Côte D’Azur — or, more specifically, says Bonhomme’s Founder & Managing Partner Daniel Alonso, “in the making of RIVIERA (and the new Terrace in general) we constantly referenced two icons of St. Tropez, Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsbourg.” DJ sets will play vibe-appropriate beats, from “beach” house and reggae to French disco. For the brunch menu, Executive Chef Marcos Campos continues the approach of his lunch and dinner offerings, melding flavors and ingredients from Asia, Mexico, the Middle East and Spain, with dishes ranging from a Spanish Breakfast of Champions to Brown Sugar and Sage Biscuits. Beverages continue with Rosemary Yuzu Honey and Coconut Whip Slushies.
This year, Beatnik On The River also debuted its 80 seat sidewalk patio on Wacker Drive, which mirrors the interiors and riverfront terrace.
