Parts and Labor is Logan Square's homage to the classic griddle burger. Steeped in southside tradition, Parts and Labor keeps their menu tight but highly instagrammable with classic burger combos and curly fries. A recent reboot of their under-the-radar brunch menu caught our weekend attention. We stopped by recently to check it out, here's what we saw!
Brunch beverages are mandatory as far as we're concerned. Along with mimosas, bellinis and coffee, Parts and Labor offers concoctions like the Northstar with campari, champagne and orange bitters topped with blood orange soda. We opt for a spicy riff on a classic; the Hellfyre Bloody Mary uses a housemade Bloody Mary mix with spicy vodka and lime. A Miller High Life pony acts as a side car and we're mighty content.
Much like their all day burger menu, the Parts and Labor brunch menu is concisely presented with sandwiches, omelettes and favorite dishes. We take the bait and immediately dig into the Brunch Burger. This classic double patty is topped with a fried egg, cream cheese and bacon. A side of homemade syrup is an all too tempting sweet addition to our meaty goodness. You won't regret it either. Curly fries round out our introduction.
Up next is the Open Face Tofu Scramble. For a restaurant built on a foundation of burgers, this vegan friendly dish is as unexpected as it is colorful. A tofu scramble with green onion and red & green peppers on sourdough bread - topped with tomato, arugula, poblano veganaise, vegan mozzarella and fried spinach tortilla strips. If you ask nicely, you'll learn turmeric is why we'll be back for more.
Okay, we're getting full. But this brunch, so we push on. The Cheeseburger Omelette slices up the classic Parts and Labor patty and stuffs it into an envelope of eggs, American cheese, onions and pickles - with homemade hashbrowns on the side.
And the Stuffed French Toast ends our brunch odyssey with a bit of sweetness. Parts and Labor offers seasonal stuffed variations along with rotating syrup selections. Homemade hashbrowns and two strips of applewood bacon complete the dish.
Parts and Labor is Cash Only! But don't worry, your ATM receipt gets you a shot of whiskey in return.
