Lakeview

New York Delicatessen, located at 2921 N. Clark Street in East Lakeview, is now open. The eatery, originally called New York Deli, closed in March for renovations after previous owner David Lobo sold the business to his employee, Isaac Work. The revamped deli is a collaboration between Work and Angelo Velliotis (owner of Clark Street Dog). The New York-style deli, serves sandwiches, Lavazza espresso and Stumptown cold brew daily as well as bagels from New York Bagel and Bialy Co and Glazed and Infused donuts on the weekends.

NY Deli
The restaurant's revamped interior mimics a New York-style deli.

The redesigned space creates a New York City vibe. Dressed in shades of black and white, the restaurant installed new period lighting and subway tile walls. As a nod to the espresso bar, antique coffee grinders were brought in. New seating has also been added to accommodate 26.

In creating the menu, ownership wanted to honor the classics that made New York Deli a staple in the Lakeview neighborhood for 10 years, while also putting their own spin on things. The new menu at New York Delicatessen features New York-style flavors with a Chicago-style twist.

Items include artisanal sandwiches, house-made corned beef, Russian dressing, soups, deli salads, cole slaw, hand-pressed espresso, craft sodas, teas and more. On Saturdays and Sundays, patrons can enjoy Glazed and Infused donuts and fresh-baked bagels from New York Bagel and Bialy Co.
